Little Gems of Wisdom & Fun from Mary Lynn Ziemer
Calm is where the magic of our lives take place. I don’t know anyone who wouldn't enjoy feeling more calm throughout their day. Remember, good feelings create good feeling thoughts, words, and actions. That is the way to achieving outcomes that we desire.
These 5 simple steps will help you quickly and effectively create a calm mindset and an amazing feeling of peace throughout your whole body.
(This requires a little bit of writing, so before you start, grab a notebook or your computer. Hand writing is more powerful, but you can type it if you choose.)
Instructions: Answer these 5 simple questions and follow the steps below.
Question 1. How do I feel right now?
Simply name the feelings and emotions that you are experiencing right now. Write them down.
Question 2. What am I thinking about right now that is making me feel this way?
This is the place to get it out of your system if you must. Write whatever comes to your mind and go to the root of the issue.
Question 3. How can I let it go?
This is where your power begins.
Place your hand on your heart and begin breathing slowly and deeply. Imagine breathing love in… and breathing out anything you’re holding onto.
Now, send love to everything you wrote in Question 2... the people, the thoughts, the situation. Let love move through all of it.
Love is your natural state. When you return to it, everything begins to shift.
You might say to yourself: “I send love and light to all of these thoughts now.”
Feel love for yourself and keep a nice even rhythm to your breathing as you inhale love and exhale whatever you are feeling. Stay here until you feel your body soften, and can imagine only love flowing in and going out.
(Try my guided heart meditation to go deeper with this method.)
You can also write the following statement a few times for self-compassion.
“I am doing the best I can. I know that this is just temporary, and I find peace of mind as I stay connected to others with love during this time. I trust that everything is going to work out. Everything is going to be just fine.”
When you do this, you will begin to feel peace throughout your body, and you will find your calm.
Question 4. What can I think about at this moment that will make me feel better right now?
This is what I call "Flip the Switch to Joy". Very specifically, change each of the thoughts that you wrote about in Q2 to what you really want the outcome of the situation to be. Focus on the best, most ideal result you can imagine by creating statements that describe the opposite of the situation you wrote about in Q2.
Now, create a snapshot in your mind of what that end result looks like, and feel lots and lots of love for everyone and everything involved.
Question 5. What do you have in your life right now that you are grateful for?
Think of all of the things you have at this moment to be grateful now and write them down. Gratitude will seal the deal to feeling better and calmer now.
Now, know how powerful you are! We get to choose how we feel and what we spend our time focusing on. So, if you make a commitment to feeling good right now, no matter what, you will build that feeling of peace in this moment and you will become more calm in the next. The calmer you become, the easier it will be to shape your outcome into one that you truly want to create at that very moment.
So, "Flip the Switch to Joy" all day long, both in writing and in your mind. As you feel lots of love for yourself, everyone, and everything, it will create a calmness that will take your life to a whole new level!
Wishing you an absolutely magical week full of love, gratitude and fun, fun, FUN!
