Put Down Your To-Do List for "Me-Time"

Intellectually, most of us understand that self-care is essential to living a joyful life. Yet, I often hear people say they are so busy they can’t take time for themselves. They lead very active, often hectic and demanding lives. Even though they say they want to make themselves a higher priority, they simply run out of time.

The truth is, our to-do lists are endless. We are creative beings, so there will always be something more to create, accomplish, and "to-do." Yet, no matter how much we accomplish every day, we continue to add to the list. Instead, we must take charge of our lives so we can live it in balance, feeling peace and calm.

Here's the wonderful catch. Taking time for ourselves actually allows us to have more time! Yes, it’s true! How? It all has to do with how we feel. Studies prove that when we feel good and calm, we have more focus, more energy, and are more creative. We actually create what we want more quickly. We are more productive!

If we want to take ourselves to that next level of growth and joy, if we want to have an easy, fun life, we need to take time for ourselves. So, take charge of your life. Start small if you must. Even if it’s only 15 minutes a day to calm your mind by doing what you love.

A calm mindset is the key to creating what we want. When we take time for ourselves by doing whatever it is that we love, or by meditating and dreaming about the wonderful life we want to create for ourselves, it calms us and makes us feel really good. Then, we are in the flow and the magic happens. We begin to see things happen that we previously believed were impossible. We create more time for ourselves and get more done in a shorter period of time. We actually create more fun in our lives by first taking more time to have... well, fun!

Since we are the ones creating our lives, we must choose to take care of ourselves first, and everything else will follow. When we commit to ourselves, and make self-care our #1 priority emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually, everyone around us will benefit as well.
