The Ripple Effect

"Remember there's no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end." ~ Scott Adams

Little Gems of Wisdom & Fun from Mary Lynn Ziemer

Every action you take, and every word you speak to another person can have an amazing, ongoing ripple effect. In fact, your "Ripple Effect" will touch approximately 1,000 people today... so make it a beautiful one!

Recent and extraordinary research shows that our attitudes and actions not only impact the people we interact with directly, but that each individual’s influence actually extends to people up to at least 3 degrees. While this may not sound like much, the influence adds up. Researchers estimate that there are nearly 1,000 people within 3 degrees of most of us! These studies also prove that much of our behavior is literally contagious. So, when you consciously choose to think, speak, and act in positive and happier ways, you are unconsciously shaping the behavior of an incredible number of people in the same way. Now, that exemplifies the true spirit of the Holidays!

As we welcome the start to each new day during this special month of holidays and cheer, we also welcome the opportunity to create our life in new ways that fill our “love tank” to overflowing. This will give us those peaceful and joyful feelings that we all truly desire. An incredible way to impact the world, feel love for you, and share it with others, is to practice random acts of kindness. These are simply unexpected, yet very powerful, gestures of kindness to brighten someone’s day.

How will you know when your most authentic, loving you is rippling out all around you? You'll know because you will feel so good as you act without expecting anything in return (except those wonderful warm and fuzzy feelings you get when you've put a smile on someone’s face and a glow in their heart!)

To help you get started, here are 3 random acts of kindness for you to try out

during this special time of year.

1. Inspire and encourage others.

Inspire someone! Say a kind word and share a new, supportive perspective that they don’t see about themselves. Be the friend who is unconditionally caring, full of only love for them. Reinforce their talents, unique gifts, and personal strengths. Tell them that you care and use only positive words, helping them see their greatness. Help them see how special and incredible they are. When they see that amazing potential that they have, they will feel that they can do anything!

2. Appreciate someone today.

A little recognition can make a world of difference in someone’s life. Right now, pick up your phone, or open your email or text, and contact just one person today. Let them know that you are grateful for them and that you appreciate having them in your life. Share something specific with them that they have done, or a positive quality that you are thankful for. It is so simple to do, yet the ripple effect is far reaching. Imagine how wonderful you will feel and the many lives you will touch if you make this a habit everyday!

3. Smile at strangers

By simply smiling, you are passing along the greatest contagion… joy! Mirror neurons in your brain cause you to yawn if you see someone else yawn. It works the same way with a smile. The mirror neurons light up, you smile, and your happiness level rises.

Even just one sincere smile can make a truly amazing, positive difference in someone’s day. Without saying a word, you are letting that person know that you see them and that they matter. Plus, studies prove that the physical act of smiling, evokes feelings of happiness in you too.

So, pass along these simple acts of kindness this holiday season and see the beautiful ripple effect unfold. If you practice them daily, you will be amazed at how good you feel. There is nothing better! Then, watch as you create your world in unimaginable ways!

Have an absolutely magical day full of love gratitude and fun, fun, fun!
