Your Most Important Habit

"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit." - Aristotle

Little Gems of Wisdom & Fun from Mary Lynn Ziemer

Yes, we are creatures of habit. And, we are also incredibly powerful beings! It is so wonderful to know that how we create our lives is up to us. It doesn’t get much better than that! So, let’s take advantage of our human nature and love of forming habits, and use this to help us create our dream life most effectively and easily.

There is one very important habit that can truly change our life in such an amazing, positive way. It is the habit of maintaining a calm mindset. To be more precise, it’s about maintaining that calm mindset in the present moment. That is what "living in the present" truly means. It's the ability to feel calm in any situation. When we are truly living in the present moment, we will know that we are, because we only feel good, and then we become calm.

A calm mindset allows true magic and miracles to happen. It’s the crucial element to creating success in every area of our lives. It is the number one most important thing that we must do! Only when we feel love and gratitude, and when we are having fun with it, will we become calm. The more we strive for that calm mindset, the more quickly and consistently will we create what we desire for ourselves and others.

Here’s how to do it.

Remember, how you feel in this moment paves the way to your next. So, stop and ask yourself, "How do I feel right now?" Because, how you feel NOW determines how this present moment is going to evolve into the next, and the next, and the next...

Focus on feeling good, so that the moment you are in right now will advance and develop in the direction you want it to. You will be sure to create great things!

Begin with these steps:

1. Concentrate on the moment and the situation you are in. Focus on your life and what you want to create right now, with whatever is going on, that feels good and brings you peace. This requires that you leave the past where it belongs... in the past. The more you concentrate on now, by making choices that feel good in the present moment, the more easily you will be able to take care of your future. The results will be amazing!

*An important note: This requires thoughts, words and actions that are aligned in every moment with what you really want. When you are consciously aware and diligent in your practice, you’ll start seeing what you want appear. How quickly this happens depends on you and how true you are to the content of your thoughts and how you feel.

2. Bask in the delight of your life right now, and lead with love. Open your heart, as you place your full attention on whatever activity you have at hand. Notice how much more calming it is to do one thing at a time, as you fully immerse your mind and energy in it, remembering to feel good. Recognize the beauty of the experience you are engaged in. For example, feel the joy of connecting solely with those you are with, or in the simple act of whatever you are doing, or the nature that is around you. It could be anything. If you're doing a job, be grateful for your ability to do this job, for the tools you have to help you with it, and for the fact that you're being rewarded in some way for it. If you're driving a car, take notice of the scenery, and feel gratitude that you have a car to drive. If you're eating a meal, pay attention and savor the taste the food, while feeling grateful for it. It could be engaging in a fun conversation, laughing at a joke, petting your cat or dog and feeling love for them, etc. One thing at a time will get you started in the right direction. Just take the moment and feel the incredible joy that exists in the simple act of being. Just remember to be present!

3) Now, go one step further. No matter what you are doing at any given moment, all day long, find something about it that feels loving, fun, or kind. Be present and feel grateful for that moment. It’s an easy habit to form with practice. Just say, "I love you and thank you" in your mind for that moment, for the person, the thing, and for yourself, whatever the experience encompasses. As you say this to yourself, you are saying it to every one of the 50 trillion cells in your body and it will feel good! Then, to top it off for an even greater dose of dopamine flow from your brain by forming a smile on your face. And feel the joy in your heart as you keep it there.

4) Keep your eyes on your intention of each moment. While we use words to communicate, remember that we think in pictures and we create with our imagination. Stay with that picture of what you want in your mind. Keep going and use only thoughts, words, and actions that fully support it, even if it feels awkward. Just because the reality in front of you is not yet where you want it to be, it doesn’t mean that you can’t get there. This is the trick! Studies show that our mind does not know the difference between our reality and our imagination. It just knows what information you are feeding it. What you feed it consistently is what you will create in that next moment, which eventually holds your miracle.

Whatever you want is possible! You can have that dream job that you desire, or get that much needed clarity around what it is that you want. Do you desire better health? It’s yours! More money, happier and deeper relationships? You can have those too! How? Simply make a habit of staying calm. Staying calm is where the magic happens! It’s crucial to your success. How? By finding pleasure in every present moment that you experience… all day long. You can do it. Like any habit, it just takes trying it once, then repeating it again and again. And the rewards are oh so wonderful!

Eventually, as you practice love, gratitude, and fun, you will find that you have successfully developed a new and powerful habit. Not only will this feed your soul, it will create your new autopilot of calm, a habit that will change your life forever!

Have an absolutely magical week full of love, gratitude and fun, fun, fun!
