How to Calm Yourself...and Stay That Way

I don’t know anyone who doesn’t want to go through their day feeling calmer, especially now.
You may be asking yourself if it’s even possible to find your calm and stay there, given the circumstances that we have in front of us. However, the answer is a resounding “YES!” It is possible!
You can feel more peace and calm inside yourself today and every day. Calm is where the magic of our lives take place, so start with this quick exercise today to feel calmer and to begin creating a life that you’ll love consistently. Remember, good feelings create good feeling thoughts. That is the way to achieving outcomes that we desire.
Start NOW with this Simple Exercise:
These 3 simple steps will help you quickly and effectively create an amazing feeling of calmness throughout your whole body. I call this trick, “Flip the Switch to Joy!”
First, get a journal, notebook, or grab your computer if you must ☺, as this exercise requires a little writing. You will feel better when you are finished. And, please remember, you can’t get this exercise wrong. Just try it! If you give it just 10 minutes of your attention one, two or even three times a day, you will begin to feel so good, and so much calmer.
Instructions: Answer these 3 simple questions and follow the steps below.
1. How do I feel right now? Simply name the feelings and emotions that you have right now. Write them down.
Now, put your hand on your heart and imagine breathing love in and out deeply. Keep a nice even rhythm to your breathing as you inhale love and exhale whatever you are feeling. Do this several times until you feel more relaxed and can imagine only love coming in and going out.
2. What am I thinking about right now that is making me feel this way? Write whatever comes to your mind and try to go to the root of the issue. Write until you’ve let it all out.
Now, bless it (the person, the thoughts, the circumstances and the situation surrounding those thoughts) that are causing you to feel this way. Be sure to send love to all of it to reset yourself to your most natural state of love. In doing so, you will transfuse yourself and everything else with love.
As Roger G. Lanphear in his book Unified explains, "Life is not only for receiving love, but it is also for giving love to everyone and everything. This is the misunderstood concept of forgiving: Life is for giving love. For giving. For giving love. That is forgiveness. Nothing else.”
Say to yourself, “I send you love from my heart and I forgive you, knowing that you can never take my power from me.”
You can also write the following statement a few times for self-compassion.
“I am doing the best I can. I know that this is just temporary, and I find peace of mind as I stay connected to others with love during this time."
When you do this, you will begin to feel peace in your body and you will find your calm.
3(a). What can I think about right now that will make me feel better right now? This is where Flip the Switch to Joy comes in.
Very specifically, change each of the thoughts that you wrote about in Q2 to what you really want the outcome of the situation to be. Focus on the best, most ideal result you can imagine by creating statements that describe the opposite of the situation you wrote about in Q2.
Now, create a snapshot in your mind of what that end result looks like, and feel lots and lots of love for everyone and everything involved.
3(b). Form statements of gratitude about what you have in your life now and write about them. Gratitude will seal the deal to feeling better and calmer now.
Know how powerful you are! Remember that, in spite of the situation at hand, we get to choose how we feel and what we spend our time focusing on. Calm is a mindset that is well worth pursuing.
As you begin the journey of becoming calmer than ever before, you are quite simply changing yourself. You become a new person in how you see your life, and everyone and everything in it. As you become a new calmer version of you, you experience life at an even higher level of joy and dreams come true!
Remember, how you feel is creating your reality. So, if you make a commitment to feeling good right now, no matter what, to choose a feeling of love in the moment you are in, you will build that feeling of peace in this moment and will become more calm in the next. The calmer you become, the easier it will be to choose another loving thought, word, or action. And then, it will be easier than ever before for you to shape your outcome into one that you truly want to create at that very moment.
So, Flip the Switch to Joy all day long, both in writing and in your mind. As you feel lots of love for yourself, everyone, and everything, that will create a calmness that is going to take your life to a whole new level.
