Every action you take and every word you speak to another person can have an amazing, ongoing ripple effect. Extraordinary research shows that our attitudes and actions not only impact the people we interact with directly, but our influence actually extends to people up to at least 3 degrees. While this may not sound like much, it adds up. Researchers estimate there are nearly 1,000 people within 3 degrees of most of us! So, an interaction with just one person could actually end up affecting 1,000.
These studies also prove that much of our behavior is literally contagious. So, when you consciously choose to think, speak, and act in positive and happier ways, you are unconsciously shaping the behavior of an incredible number of people in the same way.
An incredible way to impact the world, feel love for you, and share it with others, is to practice random acts of kindness. These are simply unexpected, yet very powerful gestures of kindness to brighten someone’s day. This short video from MindUP talks about how sharing your acts of kindness with others has an even greater effect.
How will you know when your most authentic, loving you is rippling out? You'll know because you will feel so good as you act without expecting anything in return (except those wonderful warm and fuzzy feelings you get when you've put a smile on someone’s face and a glow in their heart!)
To help you get started, here are 3 more random acts of kindness for you to try out today and everyday.
1. Inspire, encourage, and uplift others. Inspire someone! Say a kind word and share a new, supportive perspective that someone might not see about themselves. Reinforce their talents, unique gifts, and personal strengths.
2. Show someone your appreciation. A little recognition can make a world of difference in someone’s life. Right now, pick up your phone, or open your email, and contact just one person today. Let them know that you are grateful for them and that you appreciate having them in your life, or share a specific thing they have done or a positive quality that you are thankful for.
3. Smile at strangers and speak a few words of kindness. By simply smiling, you are passing along the greatest contagion… joy! Mirror neurons in our brains light up, causes us to smile when we see others smile, and everyone's happiness level rises. Now, add some caring and kind words and you’ve enhanced the feeling of love and joy for everyone involved.
So, pass along these simple acts of kindness every day and see the beautiful ripple effect unfold. Then, watch as you create your beautiful world in the kindest of ways!
